Sex education
Since sexuality is learned, there is plenty of room for development, even as adults. I conduct courses and workshops at schools and support parents in matters of sexuality and sex education.
The classroom, whether mixed-gender or single-sex, is a place that requires great care in order to be effective. I introduce the essential topics in an age-appropriate manner and allow dialogue to flow without forcing it.
My basic approach is to convey to children and young people that sex is something positive and that treating one’s own body with respect is as valuable as it is pleasurable.
- Children
I create a space for children that suits them and is appropriate for their stage of development. They should not have to conform to adult logic and expectations. I show them that self-esteem, a positive body image and feelings are wonderful qualities that are available to all of us.
- Youngsters
Young people searching for their identity sometimes clash violently with sexuality. It is not always easy for them to find their way in this controversial field. Added to this is their own changing bodies, which want to tell a completely different story. With my relaxed view of sexuality, I want to encourage young people to listen more closely to their own inner world. This allows crises to be broken down into smaller problems that are easier to deal with.
- Parents
Nowadays, parents are confronted with situations and questions that were sometimes unthinkable in the past. What values should they teach their children? How should they respect their children and their individuality? How can they deal with this competently and in an age-appropriate manner?
I help parents to free themselves from the constraints and excessive demands of ‘proper’ sex education and to remain authentic.
Sex education for parents is less about imparting knowledge and more about training them in how to respond to sensitive situations with tact and sensitivity.
